Now that we're in the throes of another wave of sequels, let us again reflect on the 80s and early 90s. Not gonna say too much here because I think most of these spoke for themselves. I really doubt we expected much of them to begin with (except for maybe Jaws 3-D because 3-D was sorta hip at the time). I also must give out snaps to those who used roman numerals in the titles to convey the serious "we're serious enough to use roman numerals" message. And finally I'd like to take the time to note the fact that there are now four "Bring It On"s...four. Pull together all your favorite videos n'stuff using Searchles TV - no really...it's easy.
1. Grease 2 (1982). Just because VH1 plays this sequel on Movies That Rock does not, in fact, imply such things. Michelle Pfeiffer only brings maybe a third of the sass that Olivia Newton John closes out Grease with in the carnival scene.
2. Caddyshack II (1988). Gopher overkill, no Bill Murray, no Rodney Dangerfield, no dice.
3. Airplane II: The Sequel (1982). Passenger Spaceship to the moon is just too unbelievable a plot device for the 80s. June Cleaver speaking jive in Airplane, however, completely believable.
4. Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise (1987). Revenge of the Nerds meets Spring Break. You don't need more skin in the Revenge of the Nerds franchise.
5. Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993). I guess it's not really fair to call out Part Deux when the first one isn't much to shake a stick at (does that even mean what I think it does?), but nevertheless...
6. Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991). Note: The film's original working title was Bill & Ted Go To Hell. Sadly, this little hint that Bogus Journey would not live up to the original was not picked up on.
7. Rocky V (1990). 2006's Rocky Balboa went on as if Rocky V never happened.
8. Jaws 3-D (1983). Like 3-D itself, Jaws 3-D never really got off the ground. And it takes place at Sea World.
9. Superman II (1980). The original director was taken off the project after 75% of the movie had been completed - not a stellar sign.
10. Major League II (1994). New Willie Mays Hayes, old tired jokes.
11. Rambo First Blood Part II (1985). Sly Stallone loves those franchises. He would go on to make two more. Stop or my Mom will shoot.
12. Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987). Holy crap how did it come to this? I guess I could've chosen any of Police Academy 2 through 7 but 4 felt just right. Shame on you Guttenberg...shame.

Actually, 2006's Rocky Balboa does not throw out Rocky V. It even specifically mentions the medical determination of Rocky V and how medical science has progressed to the point where they re-evaluate Rocky.
Some fact checking might be useful to you...
